In its previous life as one of palma de mallorcas most popular hang-outs for the islands international scene the maricel was the site of exuberant parties and exclusive events. The atmosphere today is a lot more leisurely but the ghost of a decadent past somehow remains. Following a restructuring by hospes design team traditional balearic design elements of the original building have been brought back to life in the form of archways arcades and pillars in marble and stone and the densely-packed majorcan sandstone of nearby town santanyi. In comparison to the neo-classical entrance marcels guestrooms were created with three basic principles in mind- comfort space and light. Born of this philosophy they have a functional minimalist edge using simple colors and textures. With vistas of the mediterranean sea to rival any on mallorca the hotels terrace has an air of jet-set luxury.
